Causes of Dysphagia
Dysphagia can be caused by a wide range of factors, including neurological disorders such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, or multiple sclerosis. Structural issues such as esophageal strictures, tumors, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) can also lead to difficulty in swallowing. Additionally, certain medications, aging, and muscle weakness can contribute to the development of dysphagia.
Furthermore, trauma or injury to the head, neck, or chest can also result in dysphagia. People who have undergone radiation therapy or chemotherapy for cancer in the head, neck, or chest may also experience difficulty swallowing as a side effect of treatment.
