Intertrigo: How It May Manifest

Intertrigo often manifests as red, inflamed skin in the affected areas, which can be itchy, painful, and prone to developing a rash.  The affected skin may appear raw or weepy, and there may be a foul odor present due to bacterial or fungal overgrowth. If left untreated, intertrigo can lead to further complications, such as secondary infections.

It is important to keep the affected areas clean and dry to prevent the worsening of intertrigo. Using a gentle cleanser and thoroughly drying the skin after bathing can help reduce moisture and minimize the risk of infection. Additionally, applying a barrier cream or powder can provide a protective layer and help alleviate symptoms. Seeking medical attention is recommended for severe or persistent cases of intertrigo.
