Common Reasons Behind Croup

Croup is most commonly caused by viral infections, particularly the parainfluenza virus. When a child contracts this virus, it leads to inflammation and swelling of the upper airways, including the voice box and windpipe. Other viruses, such as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), can also cause croup, although less frequently. It’s important to note that croup is highly contagious, and it can easily spread from person to person through respiratory droplets.
