Reasons That Valley Fever Might Occur

The most prominent cause of Valley fever is the inhalation of fungal spores of the Coccidioides species. These spores are typically found in the soil in specific regions, such as the southwestern United States and parts of Mexico and Central and South America. When the soil is disturbed, for example, during construction, farming, or windstorms, the spores become airborne and can be inhaled by humans. It’s important to note that not everyone who inhales these spores will develop Valley fever, as some individuals may be more susceptible to the infection due to underlying health conditions or weakened immune systems.
